NGC 1300

NGC 1300 is a barred spiral galaxy located in the constellation Eridanus. It has a bright core, but its arms are considerably dimmer. With a visual magnitude of 11.4, it can be seen in small telescopes under good sky conditions, although its relatively small apparent size (6 × 4 arc-min) makes it difficult to bring out its details. NGC 1300 is located around 61 million LY from us. The galaxy has a physical diameter of around 110,000 LY (about 2/3 the size of our Milky Way Galaxy). It is part of the Eridanus Group of galaxies, which contains around 200 members.
NGC 1300 was discovered by John Herschel in 1835.
