- NGC 1528
NGC 1528 is a relatively compact, bright open cluster lying along the edge of the Milky Way stream in the constellation Perseus. It was discovered by William Herschell in 1790. The cluster contains around 165 stars within an area of the sky 18-20 arc-min across. It has a visual magnitude of 6.4 and lies at a distance of around 2350 LY. The bright yellow star in the lower left corner of my image is HD 26857, a 6.59-magnitude Class G star located 2718 LY from us.
Another open cluster, NGC 1545, is located less than 2 degrees south of NGC 1528. These two clusters have similar galactic positions, ages, and relative motions. For these reasons, some consider these two clusters as a possible binary system.
