NGC 2301      

NGC 1981 is a fairly rich open cluster lying in the constellation Monoceros. With an apparent magnitude of 6, it is visible to the naked eye under good sky conditions. It contains a colorful mixture of orange and blue-white giant and sub-giant stars, and is considered a good target for binocular and small telescope viewing. It was discovered by William Herschel in 1786.
NGC 2301 contains around 80 member stars contained within an area around 15 arc-min across. It lies at a distance of around 2840 LY. The age of the cluster is estimated to be around 165 million years.
