- M 37 (NGC 2099)
M 37 is an open cluster in the constellation Auriga. It lies in the winter Milky Way close to two other notable open clusters, M 36 and M 38. All three of these clusters were discovered in 1654 by Giovanni Batista Hodierna, a Catholic prient living in Sicily. M 37 is around 4510 LY away and contains more than 2000 stars. With an estimated age greater than 500 million years, M 37 is considered a very evolved open cluster containing substantial populations of red giant and white dwarf stars.
