NGC 7380    Wizard Nebula

NGC 7380 is an open cluster with associated emission nebula located in the Milky Way stream in the constellation Cepheus. It was discovered by Caroline Herschel in 1787. The overall magnitude of the object is 7.2, but this is primarily the open cluster. The emission nebula is considerably fainter. The object is located around 7200 LY away. The cluster contains around 125 visible stars.
NGC 7380 exhibits a number of tower-like gas and dust structures similar to the "Pillars of Creation" in the Eagle Nebula (M 16). The nebula is part of an active star-forming region that spans around 100 LY.
