Sharpless 155    Cave Nebula

Sharpless 155 is an open cluster with associated emission nebula located in the Milky Way stream in the constellation Cepheus. It is commonly called the Cave Nebula because the large dark void in the otherwise bright nebula created by foreground dust clouds gives the impression of the mouth of a cave. The nebula is fairly large, extending over an area of 50 × 30 arc-min. It has a magnitide of 7.7, but is not easy to pick out visually because this brightness is spread out over its large size. Physically, the nebula spans around 35 LY and lies at a distance of around 2400 LY.
