Stock 8 and IC 417

Stock 8 is a small open cluster located in the constellation Auriga. It is associated with a patch of nebulosity that has the designation IC 417. This nebulosity glows red with Hα emissions. The cluster is centered on the relatively bright (visual magnitude 5.08) yellow star φ Aurigae (HD 35620), located to the left of center in my image. The cluster contains around 40 member stars and spans about 15 arc-min.
The bright red star just above the center of the image is the carbon star TYC 2411-222-1. The presence of carbon in the atmosphere of this star results in its bright red color.
There are several other small open clusters within the region covered by my image, but they are difficult to distinguish from the background star field of the Milky Way.
